If one fine day you visit the website (including the admin page) and see the message “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute” on your WordPress site, stay calm because this is a very common error and the way to handle it is also very easy and fast in a “note”. So where is this error and how to fix it, please find out in the content that I share below.
Error message “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute” translated into Vietnamese means: “Temporarily inaccessible due to maintenance. Check back in a few minutes.” Some of you are too calm, after reading this message, you think that the webserver is under maintenance for a few minutes and it will recover. But after waiting and waiting, it was still like that and started to worry.
Error “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute” appears when Update Plugin or WordPress
However, this is the time to calm down because this is a very common mistake when you upgrade your WordPress website or update a certain plugin in your website. But why does upgrading a website and updating a plugin cause this error?
When the WordPress website upgrade process is in progress, it is obvious that your website is inoperable. At this point, in the WordPress upgrade kit, there will be a .maintenance file that is automatically added to the root directory so that when visitors visit it, it will show the message “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute” to notify visitors that the website is being updated.
According to the correct process, when the update process is completed, the .maintenance file will be automatically deleted. Still, it may be because of an error that the deletion of this file cannot be performed. So the message line is still displayed even though the update has been completed.
Because the cause of this error is that the .maintenance file produced during the update process is not automatically deleted. To fix this error, we have to go to the root directory to delete this .maintenance file manually.
You log in to cPanel >> File manager >> public_html and then go to the directory containing your website. Find the .maintenance file on the same level as the index.php file and the wp-admin, wp-content, wp-includes folders. Select and delete it, then reload the web to see if it is working properly.
Note that it is natural to display this message during a WordPress or plugin upgrade, and it is not an error. Only when the upgrade process is completed, but the message still appears, it is an error and we have to fix it in the same way as above.
So you know the cause and how to fix the Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance error. Check back in a minute on your WordPress site, right?
